I struggled for a long time separating how I feel about issues verses what expect from government:

Abortion, personally I don’t support it, so Government should have a rule

Gay issues, I am straight so Government needs a rule

Health Care, Doctor visits and medication is very expensive, so government should have a rule.

My faith in God and rules of the church, so government must have a rule

live in alignment with the planet (green), so government needs a rule

yada, yada, yada

It finally occurred to me, that my own beliefs are not a political platform. Actually, government needs to stay out of the morals debate altogether. My beliefs and freedom to choice is what this country was founded on.

The founders intention for Government is to protect and defend, not dictate and mandate.

In the last year we have seen Government:

Bail out Banks (Take over)

Take over the Auto Industry (isn’t it strange how Toyota NO #1 auto company and non-union and not owned by government is being slammed by the media)

Take over Health Care (Evil Insurance Companies)

Proposal of Controlling executives salaries (Fat Cat Wall Street)

Cap and Trade (Save the planet)

The constitution and the founders agenda was based on a sustainable platform. Government control can not achieve sustainable results. Our country is very diverse. What works in New York most likely will not work in Arizona. What works in Texas will not work in Oregon. What works in Florida may not work in Alaska. The founders and the constitution clearly understood this. Let the States and the people govern themselves.

So in conclusion, I believe if the Conservative (POLITICAL) agenda were to focus on government’s responsibility to protect and defend, and get out of the business of legislating morality (Gay rights or lack of, and the right for a woman to choice, abortion) the liberal agenda would loose a lot of wind in there sail. Liberal thinking and conservative thinking are rights and government involvement will only lead to civil strife.

In a resent press conference President Obama stated that they believe “now that Health Care is passing they can get back to making life better for Americans”. It appears that behind that statement is that they want to get back to deciding what is good for Americans. This is where the difference between myself and many Americas differ from the current administration. I want Washington to give me the freedom to make life better for myself, not decide what is better for me.

Personally I am a conservative liberal. On many issues I find that I believe in a liberal frame of mind and on many others issues I am extremely conservative. I also find that many of my associates, friends, and family differ in my views on many issues. I think this is great and what this country was founded on and the government should keep it’s nose out of it.

I believe Washington needs to stay out of the business of legislating morals. My values are my own. My neighbors values are different. It is absolutely imperative that we live our lives in alignment with our values. That is an individual assessment, not a government dictate.

Washington needs to stay out of the business of limiting the success of Americans. This Robinhood mentality of stiffing the successful for the sake of elevating the unsuccessful has been a fairy tale that doesn’t work in the real world. The economics is that at some point the rich will run out of money and you can’t keep printing more money without some sort of value behind it.

So in short, to give American’s a secure future and a better life, give them encouragement, motivation and opportunity to be successful and they will.

I’ve take the liberty of removing the specifics about black America here and just reference America. I don’t think the problem here is racial. It social.

Six years ago I wrote a book called Uncle Sam’s Plantation. I wrote the book to tell my own story of what I saw living inside the welfare state and my own transformation out of it.
I said in that book that indeed there are two Americas — a poor America on socialism and a wealthy America on capitalism.

I talked about government programs like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training (JOBS), Emergency Assistance to Needy Families with Children (EANF), Section 8 Housing, and Food Stamps.

A vast sea of perhaps well-intentioned government programs, all initially set into motion in the 1960s by Democrats, that were going to lift the nation’s poor out of poverty.

A benevolent Uncle Sam welcomed mostly poor Americans onto the government plantation. Those who accepted the invitation switched mindsets from “How do I take care of myself?” to “What do I have to do to stay on the plantation?” Instead of solving economic problems, government welfare socialism created monstrous moral and spiritual problems — the kind of problems that are inevitable when individuals turn responsibility for their lives over to others.

The legacy of American socialism is our blighted inner cities, dysfunctional inner city schools, and broken black families.

Through God’s grace, I found my way out. It was then that I understood what freedom meant and how great this country is.

I had the privilege of working on welfare reform in 1996 which was passed by a Republican controlled Congress.

I thought we were on the road to moving socialism out of our poor communities and replacing it with wealth-producing American capitalism. But, incredibly, we are now going in the opposite direction.

Instead of poor America on socialism becoming more like rich American on capitalism, rich America on capitalism is becoming like poor America on socialism.

Uncle Sam has welcomed our banks onto the plantation and they have said, “Thank you, Suh.”

Now, instead of thinking about what creative things need to be done to serve customers, they are thinking about what they have to tell Massah in order to get their cash. There is some kind of irony that this is all happening under our first black president on the 200th anniversary of the birthday of Abraham Lincoln.

Worse, socialism seems to be the element of our new young president. And maybe even more troubling, our corporate executives seem happy to move onto the plantation. In an op-Ed on the opinion page of the Washington Post, Mr. Obama is clear that the goal of his trillion dollar spending plan is much more than short term economic stimulus.

“This plan is more than a prescription for short-term spending — it’s a strategy for America’s long-term growth and opportunity in areas such as renewable energy, healthcare, and education.”

Perhaps more incredibly, Obama seems to think that government taking over an economy is a new idea. Or that massive growth in government can take place “with unprecedented transparency and accountability.”

Yes, sir, we heard it from Jimmy Carter when he created the Department of Energy, the Synfuels Corporation, and the Department of Education. Or how about the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 — The War on Poverty — which President Johnson said “…does not merely expand old programs or improve what is already being done.

Dear Congressman John Shadegg,

I have been listening to the talk about the health care plan and death panels, and cost, and whether the government should manage our health care, but from my stand point we are missing the point. A government funded heath care plan is totally UNSUSTAINABLE not to mention we’ve got bigger fish to fry.

I believe the government needs to focus on social programs that are sustainable and that will build our future.

If you give me health care and I’ve got no job, I’m still hungry and broke. If you give me a job, I have the option to have health care or food, or kids education, or whatever I as a free American decide to have. To me that is freedom. I think it is not about taking care of the less fortunate, it is about choice.

If you go to the local Southwest Job Network meeting and say to that 1500 attendees “I’ve got a billion dollars in my hand and I can give you free health care or I can give you a job” you will hear a resounding JOB!. If you look at the demographics of the unemployed right now it is not some guy looking for his next bottle of wine, it is laid off construction workers, project managers, shop supervisors, real estate people, human resources, and secretaries.

The Obamakins say “every one has a right to have affordable insurance”. I say everyone should have a choice to have a job. That was the case up until this last year. You could always find a fast food place to go to work if you need to. But that is not the case today. There are now several thousand people that just want to work and earn there way.

A health care program will just make the people of this country more dependent on the government. Jobs or education will make this country and its people stronger with a vision for the future.

The infrastructure of this country is crumbling. Bridges out of date, sewer systems out of date, water systems out of date, the levees in Sacramento, CA are within a small earthquake or large storm from causing a catastrophic disaster to the LA basin and Sacramento. There is an endless number of opportunities for our government to put people to work on total sustainable programs that will invest not only in this generation, but future generations. This to me is the major point in this whole debate.

So help American take back it freedoms and build a strong base for this country to move forward. Stop this health care waste and lets get the eye on the future of America.

So I know the Obama people say anyone that is talking again health care is a plant, trust me I am not a plant . I am a hard working American trying to get our government off the fast track to disaster.

Being raw doesn’t mean giving up some of your favorite foods. I used to love to order sweet potato fries with chipolte mayo. But my body did not love eating them! I felt heavy, bloated and like I had been sedated! The deep frying plus all the saturated fat in the mayo completely obliterated any healthy benefits that the sweet potatoes were offering. The potatoes offered in this recipe are a little more chewy than crispy but great! And the “mayo” is even better than the original unhealthy version!

Sweet Potatoes are a nutritional power house. High in vitamin A and vitamin c, they are also loaded with fiber. They are excellent immunity builders and also help balance blood sugars. Adding these wonderful tubers to your diet provide a great healthy way to snack.

Drain, place on dehydrator screens, sprinkle with sea salt and dehydrate at 145 for 1/2 hour. Reduce temp to 115 and dehydrate until desired dryness is achieved.

The wholeness of your life is not so much defined by where you are, but more by where you’ve been and how you handled it. What I mean by that is have you ever noticed when you speak proudly about where you’ve been in life it is usually from a time when you were broke, sick or dealing with a challenge in life, loss of love a one, family member, or pet.

I was listening to NPR this morning. They were interviewing Tanya Tucker and were discussing the challenges in her life with drugs, men, fame, etc. The comment was made “well you have done some living now haven’t you”. That is when the light came on. These days I believe a lot of us are having some sort of challenges. We always have and always will. So when your recanting how difficult today is and you feel how the weight of today’s burdens are to heavy, just reflect that today is just another rendition of tomorrow and yesterday. The only difference is your state of emotion. The first step of handle today is to handle your emotions. We all have them. It is fine to have emotion, just don’t be had by your emotions.

My suggestion is first handle how you feel and get control of it. Job loss or love one loss is not insignificant. Understand where you are at with it. If you try to run head long into say a job interview and you do not have a good feeling about your self worth, that will probably come through to the interviewer. If you are not feeling down about a pet or love one passing and you are trying to close a sale, it may be a difficult.

I am not saying stop living, I suggesting understand living and appreciate the wholeness of life’s offering. The greatness of the reflection of that love one in your life is the blessing of having that love one in your life for whatever time frame god afforded you. The other path of that reflection (why me?) is going to take you down the wrong path. Always has and always will.

Dr. Lee Harvey of San Diego, CA has proven worthy of the coveted award after his multiple trips back to the baked beans pot and the hot dog grill.

It was feared that an intervention might be required to have Karen release the award. “If you have the award, you can’t receive it” Karen was heard to say. But after the exhibition by Dr. Harvey, Karen felt she could no longer keep the award.
